Doug has had a presence in the NWT for over 35 years and lived in the communities of Behchoko and Gameti before settling into Yellowknife in 2004 with his wife—Lou, and two children—Victoria and Mitchell. Work and sport has taken him throughout the NWT and Canada’s North. Following the Tłįchǫ Lands Claims and Self-Government Agreement of 2005, Doug spent the next decade working with the Tłįchǫ Government in establishing and developing the Tłįchǫ Investment Corporation. He has over 30 years of experience working with and developing corporate boards and continues to volunteer his time working with local, territorial, and national sports boards and councils.
Doug was born in Toronto, grew up in rural Ontario (Alton/Orangeville), and then headed west after high school. He earned a Diploma in Business Administration from Red River Community College in Winnipeg and a Bachelor’s Degree with a double major in Political Science and Economics from the University of Winnipeg.
